Sunshine Generation of Cottonwood

1. All classes are one hour in length and will begin and end on time.

2. Remind your child to get a drink and use the bathroom before coming to Sunshine. For their safety, children are not allowed to leave class until I see their parents.

3. Attendance on a regular basis is necessary for students’ progress. If your child misses a class, it is your responsibility to find out any information that they missed. Monthly newsletters will be emailed to the email address you entered during registration. We are continually striving for high quality performances. Please encourage your child to learn the music at home with their CD and practice often.

4. Classes are not held on legal or school holidays; class will not be held on a day that a performance is scheduled. The performance replaces class that day.

 

5. I would love to get to know parents, but I would prefer that students have their full attention focused on me during the actual class time. From past teaching experience, I have seen that children seem to learn and progress faster without the distraction of having their parents in the room. Your child’s full attention is needed during class to learn the material and prepare for the performances. It is also easier for the students to have an audience when they are fully prepared to perform and feel more confident. IF you do decide to come watch occasionally, you may stay if you avoid chatting with others, and please no small children visiting classes. Don't worry, there will be plenty of performances all year long that you will have an opportunity to enjoy.

5. We charge by the month, not by the lesson. Some months have less class days than others, but some months also have extra performances. Charging by the month keeps it simple.  Payment is due at the first practice of each month! Prices are $36 per month, and a family rate of $30 for each additional child in a family enrolled in Sunshine. There is a late fee of $10 if the payment is not received by the first class of the month. There is a separate fee for a costume, but once they have the costume for their age group they can use it until they either switch age groups or grow out of it. Costumes do not change from year to year. The only other charge will be a once a year charge of $44 for practice CDs and props for the entire year (only one charge per family). Sunshine is great about trying to keep things as cheap as possible - one costume only, one small fee for CDs and props... and the rest of the year you only worry about that $36 due on the first practice of the month. No extra suprise fees!

6. Participation in performances is optional – but the most rewarding part of Sunshine! (That applause is the “pay off” to children for their efforts in class.) All performers must wear the complete Sunshine Generation costume to perform! Parents are responsible to transport their own children to each show and they should arrive, in full costume, 30 minutes before show begins. Parents are responsible for their own children immediately before and after both classes and shows! Carpooling with other Sunshine parents works great!

7. If you choose to buy one, it is an option to wear your Sunshine T-shirt to class. Girls MUST wear either black ballet shoes or black jazz shoes to class each week and to every performance. Their hair should be tied back out of their face. Boys do not need the dance shoes, but they do need to wear something that they can move around easily in. Please make sure your child is comfortable and able to move in their clothing, nothing too baggy please. No child should wear jeans to class! 

8. Each parent must fill out the registration form online or by contacting Sarah and giving her all needed information.

9. No gum, drinks, candy, or toys should be brought to class. We will be having lots of FUN in class, but we do not have a minute to spare on these distractions.

10. I realize that children change, and their interests change also. I know that your child will not be in Sunshine forever. However, you will be charged tuition until a PARENT has notified me that a child will no longer be coming. If I am notified after the payment has gone through, no refund will be issued. The best way to do this is to let me know 30 days ahead of time.

11. Parental input is always welcome. I am more than happy to listen to and consider any suggestion or comments you have. I appreciate each and every one of you parents and also your support in getting the children to class each week and to their shows. I appreciate the confidence you have placed in me. I realize that any teacher has a great impact on children, and I will strive to make that influence a very positive one!
